Bopha

Bopha (Pablo) Important Note:  Typhoon Bopha (Pablo) is almost three times the strength of Tropical Storm Washi (Sendong) which crossed North-Central Mindanao on December 16, 2011.  Please take all precautionary measures on this dangerous cyclone.  Refer to your national disaster agencies for more details.

Christianity

The Essence of Christianity via The BIBLE Baptist Web Store If you cannot see the audio controls, your browser does not support the audio element Let me contrast for you Biblical Christianity with every religion or non-religion on the face of the earth. You can put them all together because they are all the same. Biblical Christianity says that no one is good enough to earn heaven on their merits. Every other faith or non-faith believes that eternal life is earned by good works. Everyone who is not a true Christian (as defined by the Bible, not by men) believes the same thing – “If I am good enough long enough, I will earn the favor of God and be granted eternal life.”

Surface

Surface Last time, Windows Phone. Now, Surface .  I really think Microsoft is right on track here though there were no specifics were given away during the launch that got tech press yapping away their disappointments.  For some specs though here's a rundown.

Outlook

Outlook Microsoft just unveiled the new face of Hotmail — Outlook .  It sports the new Metro design you find in Windows 8.  It's clean, it's beautiful but still has the Hotmail innards which I hope to be improved very soon. I think one of the general theme of Metro is the ability to unify your third party accounts like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn in one roof.  It's the same with Windows Phone and it's also the same with Windows 8 and I think that is a really major feature that sets apart from other operating systems.  Read The Verge's article on a more detailed review here .  More screenshots after the break.

Batman

Dark Knight Rises Rating: ★★★★★★★★★☆ Of all the superhero movies of late, I say the Dark Knight Trilogy stands far above the rest.  Yes, even the recently big hit "The Avengers".  I think the Batman concept will always be unique compared to other superheroes with their super powers and their superhuman ability.  Batman has only his skills, his gadgets and his wealth.  But come to think of it, it is near impossible to maintain such balance or even to achieve this kind mastery in these areas.  Martial arts mastery alone will require a significant amount of years to master.  Let alone building and developing his own technology while maintaining Wayne Enterprise.  Not to mention also his playboy billionaire status.  Such feat is impossible to attain and that's the illusion of the Batman concept. And oh, don't forget the utility belt.

Office

Office 2013 The new office is here and it looks gorgeous!  Yes, it has Metro written all over it and it is heavily supported by the cloud — SkyDrive ! Experience the most powerful Office yet with new versions of your trusted applications and cloud services that connect you to your tools and documents where and when you need them. Check out a brief introduction to this exciting new version of Office. The video and some screenshots after the break.  If you want to go ahead and download the Consumer Preview, go here .  For a more detailed article visit Engadget 's post here .  You are going to need a Windows Live account to activate the preview.

Shooter

GIGN If you're wondering why my Twitter feed is in a low-tide mode, chances are I'm at PSN gaming network playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Free-for-all or Team Deathmatch. I can't put into remembrance when was the last time I played (and got addicted) shooting games. Long gone are the days of Counter Strike, Rainbow Six, Delta Force and whatnot. So for this post I'm just going to geek out about my exploits of late in MW3. The above video is probably one of my highest kill streak since entering Prestige mode. I know I probably made at least to 11 before hand but still I'm no pro gamer so achievements like this is a highlight for me. Anyway my perks are the following:

Rotate

Rotating Twitter Widget Finally after months of searching and testing the much coveted rotating Twitter widget, I finally got the right code. Also, this code includes retweets, even the new retweet function. Before anything else, every Blogger blogger should know that when you try to make changes to your template it is always imperative to backup your template. Step 1 Go to template > edit HTML > find </head> Paste the following code before </head> <!-- jQuery library --> <script src='https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.2/jquery.min.js' type='text/javascript'/> <!-- Tweet Rotator --> <script src='http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34682988/TwitterFeed/scripts/rotate.js' type='text/javascript'/> Save template. Step 2 Add HTML widget and add the following code. <div id="twitter_div"> <ul id="twitter_update_list" class="rotate"></ul...

Also, you can participate by watching, submitting your own sequel or vote on your favorite and help decide where the story will go.  The episodes after the jump.

Wander

"Not all those who wander are lost." What is Wander ?  I have no idea but the beautifully designed startup website draws users to register to find out more.  So I did, yet there's still a large big chunk of the puzzle missing.  If you haven't registered yet, you'll see this on the site's front page.

Sustainability

The following post is my entry to the #NokiaSustainabilityChallenge in my desperate move the hopes to win a Nokia 808 PureView. Day 1:  Walk I make daily deliveries of cakes and pastries to a local hospital here on Tuesdays through Saturday.  To save on fuel and as a means of exercise, I leave the car in our favorite parking area and walk back home.  The above video is a record of some of my walk/run sessions. Day 2:  Disconnect We have a new rule at home running for the past two weeks already.  During weekdays, our internet connection, router, PCs and PS3 are not to be used in the morning.  We get to only to use the devices at 1PM to 11PM.  It was quite an adjustment.  Online we siblings hack and shoot zombies or play Team Deathmatch on Modern Warfare 3 but this time, music jam!

Weddings

Randy & Mercy Wedding It's a blessing to see a lot of friends getting married this year.  For starters, wedding websites and invitations are not really my forte but I took one project over the summer.  I guess there is always a first time for everything and it's great to see the outcome of the project which is still on-going by the way. Wedding Website It has come to my attention that wedding websites are now part of the trend when planning a wedding.  With the help of social media it is now very easy inform everyone about the details and to keep everyone in the loop.  The article from Mashable , " 7 Reasons Why You Need a Wedding Website " should give you an idea. There's a lot of free online wedding platforms but I used Blogger instead and bought a domain.  I used the Blogger version of Memoir  which was originally a WordPress theme from Elegant Themes .  The main reason I chose Blogger is that freedom to heavily customize the template ...

Juggle

Social Media Channels As I was updating my revamped Yahoo! Profile .  It is also a long overdue post that I need just to let it out and well, to break off this ice.  I would completely understand if you don't understand anything with this post.  Thus, you've been warned.  These thoughts on social media, particularly on social networks are based on my own meandering experience. Infancy Remember the days of Myspace and Friendster ?  They used to be fun.  Checking your Myspace or Friendster profile was fun.  It was not compulsory for you to check on those sites every minute.  There was no wall of your friend's activities back then, still it was fun.  There was such a thrill when a friend posted a testimonial - especially if they were just spontaneous about it.  Another thing I noticed is that people actually connected on those days despite the limitations given on those days.  That I believe is the infancy of social media. ...

Sanctuary

To The Reception Area Bohol is full of surprises and today was one of those treasured moments.  The place we went to was located in a very remote area in Panglao and though I have read about this place in the papers, I never get the chance to visit until today.  The place exceeded my expectations and I was quite surprised why this place was never featured frequently on tourist destinations here in Bohol.  If you are ever coming to Bohol, please do drop by to this truly magical and wonderful place.  From here on, let the photographs speak for themselves.

Symbolism

Philippine Flag Symbolism Let's be honest now.  How many of you did not know behind the symbols of our national flag?  Just so you know, it is a fact that everybody lies.  Anyway, probably you are wondering why I am posting in such a nationalistic tone when independence day was almost three months behind?  Well, that makes us both.  A thought just struck me when I saw the commercial segment of Juan Time in discovery channel.

Comet

Comet UPDATE: I made some minor updates and adjustments to this template. Rotating Twitter Feed Instead of a full list of Tweets, I think a rotating Twitter feed is more practical, beautiful and clean.  See it on the demo page here .  One of the slight problem I found is that tweets that have been retweeted using the new retweet are not showing up. Buttons I added  a couple of buttons underneath each post:  Plus One and Facebook Like buttons.  Also, I updated the icons for the Facebook, Twitter and RSS links just right beside the navigation links. Facebook Summary One of the problems of a Blogger template is the Facebook summary when sharing a post.  It's either empty or just plain ugly. Proper Facebook Summary To do this be sure to fill in the "Search Description" box before publishing your post . Search Description If you don't see the Search Description box, go to your Dashboard > Settings > Search Preferences and f...

Kanlungon

Alona Kew Yesterday we officially started summer 2012 as a family by giving ourselves a treat to our favorite and secret beach in Kanlungon.  We made a few stops on the way though.  For the longest time, we revisited Alona Kew Beach Resort and its neighboring resorts.  The place has transformed over the years to a Boracay-ish kind of feel with the addition of restaurants, bars and resorts.  We just scoped out the place and found a shade while my sister and I did her levitating attempts.

Superheroes

Super Café   Do you ever wonder how superheroes hangout.  If they ever get to hangout, and no not on Google Plus.  I mean, literally hangout in a cafe talking bunch of both normal stuff like from Facebook updates, tweets and smartphones.  HISHE ( How It Should Have Ended ) just gives you just that fix and yes, they are hilarious. The videos after the jump.

RMTs

Congratulations New RMTs Abig congrats to our sister @lassyamor for passing the recent board exam for Medical Technologists last March 6 and 7, 2012.  To God be the glory!  All of the late nights and anxiety of waiting for the result to come out has finally come to an end.  I know how it feels to pass the board exam.  It is an intense mixture of relief, joy, gratitude and a sense of fulfillment. 533 out of 804 passed the March 2012 Medical Technologist (MedTech) Board Examinations, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). The exam was given by the Board of Medical Technology in the cities of Manila, Baguio and Cebu this March 2012. Members of the Board of Medical Technology who gave the licensure examination are Dr. Marietta C. Baccay, Chairman; Ms. Marilyn R. Atienza and Ms. Marian M. Tantingco, Members.

PureView

Nokia 808 PureView N okia just launched its feature phone, the Nokia 808  PureView at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona.  I think this is a very good move by Nokia trying to win back old fans like myself.  The most obvious of those features is the massive 41 megapixel sensor and Carl Zeiss lens and then turn it into a detailed 5 megapixel photo and just imagine one of your favorite iOS apps oh well, let's say Instgram - your Instagram stream will never be the same.  It also runs on the latest Symbian OS, Belle.

Perspective

Tagbilaran Rooftop Sometimes we forget how beautiful home is and for the past ten days, I looked at Bohol with fresh new eyes.  Often times it takes visitors and guests to remind of you what is simple and yet beautiful at the same time.  Simple is not always beautiful and beautiful is not always simple yet when these two aspects converge they bring a force that will take your breath away. Yesterday I get the chance to take a couple of friends a tour in the nearby towns of Dauis and Baclayon and man was I fascinated.  Warning, photo overload after the jump.

Promenade

A Walk To Remember I could not seem to recall when was the last time I visited the K of C drive.  The K of C drive is a place for friends, lovers, broken hearts, sunset lovers and some more.  The place used to free, now they are taxing two pesos per head upon entrance.  Vehicles are not allowed anymore inside (except for vendors) and there's a cottage rental at 100Php.  As I approached the gate and asked the lady when did they start asking for fees, she replied 3 years ago.  Has it been that long?  I could still remember we go down and take a dip in its waters when we were bored during a hot summer afternoon.  I could still remember running in the midst of the street and shout, "the hills are alive..." even though there were no hills around us.  I could still remember us cousins playing a "seesaw" in the water using a "salbabida".  Ours were made from patched up old truck tires.  I could remember our eldest cousin as he swam further...

Maska

Killer Eyes, Puppy Love M aska is my 2-month 1-year old Siberian Husky-Belgian Malinois cross pup. He's been with me for almost 3 weeks now. Before I took him in, some folks told me crossbreeds usually have behavior problems. I'm not a dog expert but somewhere in my mind, a theory lodges in there before I shot the question at Yahoo! Answers. I think dog behaviors highly depend on how owners raise them when they are still very young. Huskies and Malinois are both highly energetic and active. They also belong to the same class: working dogs.

Awakening

Underworld:  Awakening S elene is back with a vengeance and Kate Beckinsale  is beautifully awesome, as usual.  Underworld trumps Twilight in every angle, hands down.  Though, the entire movie itself won't give you a "woohoo let's watch it again moment" it does leave you a "wanting for more" feeling at the end.  Like every other Underworld installments the story line pace was fast, no dull moment.  The twist also was very unexpected.  The action sequences as always delivers a lot of punch but I do regret watching this on 3D.  I mean, you pay extra bucks for 3D and all I get is a couple of scenes that really brings out the 3D experience.  Anyway, this one is worth watching for an another addition to my Underworld movie collection. This is the best Underworld yet! Spoiler plot alert after the jump!  You've been warned!

SOPA

Stop SOPA I t is not a long, upholstered couch with a back and two arms or raised ends that sits within the walls of your comfortable living room.  I believe it is a sofa?  This one is SOPA - Stop Online Piracy Act.  I would want to link the article in Wikipedia but the site will be having a blackout in protest to this censorship.  So what is it?  For sure it's not as comfortable as your sofa in your living room.  Here's the gist:  there is a bill in the U.S. Senate that if passed would cripple our freedom to publish right here in the web.  Still don't get it?   Fight for the Future does it better with this video right after the jump.

Sakura

Do you know?  The speed at which cherry blossoms fall, 5 centimeters per second.  At what speed must I live to be able to see you again? 5 Centimeters Per Second is one of the most beautiful anime movies I've seen.  Both story line and the visual animation were superb.  The main characters, Takaki Tōno and Akari Shinohara were opened with the falling of the cherry blossoms falling at 5 centimeters per second. The story is set in the early 1990s, a time which I could actually relate to.  Again, this is amazingly animated and story ended in a mature kind of way.  I think the movie ends with a reality that no matter how epic a relationship started, sometimes all you could do is to look back to those days and move on.  Credits to my little sister Scarlet for introducing this movie almost a couple of years ago. Teaser trailers and spoiler alert (via Wikipedia ) right after the jump!

Pastrified

S o here I am backed up with draft posts but I know I just have to push this one through.  We have a small family business called Cake Garden  here in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.  It's a delicious mix of cakes, pastries and good food - more than the usual.  Sounds like DOT's previous campaign.  Anyway, we had been pounded with tons of orders during the holidays from family and friends.  Now that hype slowed down a bit and we got a wee bit of time to improve our products and the Cake Garden Blog . New Sticky Buns Sticky Buns The new sticky buns are bigger, gooey-y, buttery, caramel-y and imbued with more cinnamon.  Last year, we included these babies in our price list but we did not really market them for the reason we're still experimenting on the different types of dough to be used.  We even tried using Brioche dough in one occasion.  For the final product, we'll be using sweet dough for your sticky bun cravings.

Fun

T oday, the Department of Tourism finally launched a brand new theme for Philippine Tourism - fun .  You've seen the hype on Twitter  and the brand new website .  Also, this campaign is supposed to be fueled by social media like it's a new thing - I don't know what is the fuss about that but on that note you have probably noticed that I am not all out in this campaign. Tourism Campaign For International Use Sure thing, it is more fun and even better than the last failed attempt of "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" yet still if we were to be on par with other countries, they should have beefed up "WOW Philippines" instead.

Lumianized

First off, a massive thank you to Nokia Connects especially to Paul for this two-week trial of the new and lovely Nokia Lumia 800 .  On the 19th of December, the Lumia 800 arrived on my desk and well, let's just say I was "Lumianized".  For those who still didn't know, the Nokia Lumia 800 runs the latest Windows Phone code name Mango .  More on that later but let me just say it's a different experience compared to iOS and Android.  The OS is much younger compared to its rivals but it surely have a great potential if Microsoft and Nokia will join forces to improve the OS.  I love its simplicity and elegance. Hello Lumia! There are already tons of unboxing videos and reviews of this device so in this review I'll focus more on the experience.  For full phone specifications, click here .
