2012

Jan 8, 2013

Sayonara 2012

If you look that the Archives carefully, you'll notice that this is the very first post title that would probably make sense to you.  Yes, last year I decided I am ending my one-word post titles.  Twenty Twelve was a year of milestones.  It was a year of change but it was also a year of recollection, reconnection and re-evaluation.

Passed!

Aug 20, 2011

Your Treat!
Congratulations to all who passed the July 2011 Nursing Licensure Examination! I feel for you. You have 24 hours to not to think of anything else but wallow yourself in victory. Don't drink or party too hard you might end up in an ER. Instead, have a family time and have a simple celebration with thanksgiving. I've been looking all over for this one sneaky PDF file. Other nursing websites are so full of crap that they give you wrong links leading to ads - shame on you! The BON website is down as usual. PNA website is still high and apparently don't know what's going on. PRC website is down because of the traffic, oh the sluggishness! These people probably haven't heard of mirror sites! If you can't view the document above you can download it here. Down below in the blue orange download button! You can share all your feeling of happiness in the comments below. Also, I've added another mirror site here.

Draw

Aug 18, 2011

I got a new header today.  All thanks to Function for the stunning free character pack!  Without it I'd be hopeless!  I shouldn't have procrastinated on developing my drawing skills when I was younger.  But that was done, now is now and I need to catch up.  Watching the works of Books of Adam, Ricardo Gimenes and The Creative Dork gives me such enthusiasm that I just want to hit a canvas, wall, face or paper but I prefer on my iPhone while laying down and enjoying my day off.

Before going on further, what's up when you're having a day off.  Time seems to slug down when I'm passing out medications (to patient's of course) and carrying out doctor's orders (not necessarily lifting them but you know doing them).  Admitted two patients in the ER, sipped some Coke (softdrink, duh!), gave medications, rang the bell (no fire, just calling the lifters), some Coke again (still the softdrink) and still it's 9am!  What in the world?  But when I'm just laying down on my bed, reading news and blogs from my iPhone, playing Need For Speed Most Wanted for the nth time - 12pm!  What!  Yeah, yeah, it's relativity I know but I'm sticking with my story.  Time is biased!

So where was I? Ah, my masterpiece! Caution though, this is not for the faint of heart. I purposely placed the image right after the jump because this image might scare people away from this blog and won't return after the horror. If you think you can't handle something horrifying or can't even brave watching "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" then this is not for you! Leave! Wait, don't leave you can browse other posts though. Anyway, the revelation after the jump!

Nurse

Jul 31, 2011

When I have that brief moment of break during work some times I let my imaginations fly and wonder what would it be like if weren't a nurse.  Someone in my Tumblr feed said they had a crazy day:  clients, time and money with no definite  time schedule.  Sure, that should be considered to one of a hectic day but compared to what I'm dealing with now, let's see:  one's on NGT, one is for ICU transfer and needs dialysis, the pediatric ward is screaming with kids whenever I go in, I have to deal with the patient's folks as calmly as possible and not to mention lunatic residents.

Oh how I wish they knew their job is so much better compared to mine.  Sure, you worry about time and money.  What I'm worried about everyday is LIVES.  There may be weeks when we take a break from all the toxicity and deal with common fever and colds, yet there are things (dreadful things) that every nurse should experience.  Yeah, should.  It is a must, they didn't teach this in nursing school but I'll give you a couple of things:

Critical Patients

Somewhere along a nurse's career he/she will encounter difficult patients.  You'll encounter emergency situations that you'll go nuts for the first time.  You'll be screamed at, probably some of you will cry or will burst in awful emotions but it is inevitable.  Situations like critical patients coming in the ER or patient's dying during your shift are things you need to be ready.  Oh, how I wish sometimes I was just making cool graphics and websites and deal with lesser toxicity.  I wish and I know some of you wish too.

Doc

Mar 26, 2011

Whats up doc?
Click me!
A Chronicle.

I wore one of my brand new scrubs today and a couple of fellow nurses were calling me doc.  My sister and I will be re-taking (emphasis on re-) the NMAT in Manila this coming April 10.  Somehow the school that we're targeting for has new policy for medical students and thus we need to catch up, if we can.  I've always wanted to be a doctor since I was a kid.  I don't know why but I'm quite sure it's not about the glamor (because it isn't) and money.

I know I have screwed up big time during my first year in college, it was supposed to be my ticket on pursuing med school but alas, the folly of youth overtook me and thus led to me to a different path.  But somehow, God meant it to be good.

Inception

When we relocated to Bohol, I shifted to Nursing.  It was also during that time Nursing was in the all time high (I can't believe it's almost 10 years now).  I also heard news that some of my friends and classmates from my previous college have also shifted to Nursing, so I wasn't alone.  I was placed in a good church in Bohol, made good Christian friends and was exposed to the ministry for about 3-5 years and traveled to Luzon.  But I knew that I had to practice Nursing or else I would really get rusty and what my parents spent for would be gone to waste.

NursePress

Mar 14, 2011

NursePress is my nursing blog which I started last year.  One of the reasons why I started a nursing blog is that it's been a long time that I have actually practiced my profession.  After graduation I went to Makati, traveled all over Luzon but on the last year of May, I know that I was overdue to really go back to the profession.  The blog at first was just random posts about nursing, resources and events.  I later found out that there were better blogs doing that kind of stuff so the blog was again put into a halt.  I really plan to revive this blog this year.  I want to focus more on learning because Nursing is a profession that is personal and is on a constant change.  It's one of the noblest jobs but it's also one of the dirtiest professions around.  The blog as a 170+ followers on Facebook and 180+ followers on Twitter.  I think it's quite stellar to have that amount of followers for a newbie blogger like me.  Anyway, I've completely revamped the blog including posts that I find redundant but here's a couple of downloads that I have made during that span of time.  Given my knack for design and playing with Photoshop, I've made wallpapers, cheat sheets and posters.  Here's a couple of them that I still find to be useful for nurses.
