Fun

Today, the Department of Tourism finally launched a brand new theme for Philippine Tourism - fun.  You've seen the hype on Twitter and the brand new website.  Also, this campaign is supposed to be fueled by social media like it's a new thing - I don't know what is the fuss about that but on that note you have probably noticed that I am not all out in this campaign.

Tourism Campaign For International Use

Sure thing, it is more fun and even better than the last failed attempt of "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" yet still if we were to be on par with other countries, they should have beefed up "WOW Philippines" instead.

Tourism Campaign For Domestic Use

There's a lot of problems and probable misconceptions with the slogan.  It is a bit juvenile in nature, it's too wordy and a there's already a buzz circling around the web that it is also a rip off of an Swtizerland Tourism Ad.  A rip off or not, there's pretty much a lot of words in the English language that they could come up with but they stuck with an eight-syllable wordy slogan.  I would have probably pushed further to "It's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious in the Philippines!"  The "banig" or handwoven mat on the right on each of the two versions might be a genius idea but I was wondering if people could actually see that it's a map of the Philippines interwoven in pixels?  How much more, if they can perceive it is a handwoven mat?

My Version of WOW Philippines

I am sticking to "WOW Philippines" until the come up with something.  "WOW Philippines" is simple, catchy and still describes both the people and the nation in two words.  Less is more.  I still don't know why do we always change our tourism campaign slogan every now and then.  Why can't we just stick to one and improve on it every year?

I know the "It's More Fun in the Phillippines" campaign is widely accepted but this is me weighing things objectively.  So before you whine about me whining, are you comparing both campaigns in an objective sense?  Or did you just hopped in into all the hype and the drama?

"It's More Fun in the Philippines" is a good campaign, "WOW Philippines" was better, hands down.

  2. I concur.  I wonder how much they spent on #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines and just settled for Harabara.  They could have at least used a premium font.

Symbolism

Philippine Flag Symbolism Let's be honest now.  How many of you did not know behind the symbols of our national flag?  Just so you know, it is a fact that everybody lies.  Anyway, probably you are wondering why I am posting in such a nationalistic tone when independence day was almost three months behind?  Well, that makes us both.  A thought just struck me when I saw the commercial segment of Juan Time in discovery channel.

Parley

I'm pretty sure you've read James Soriano's infamous article " Language, Learning, Identity, Privilege " which garnered him mostly criticism from people who live in front of their keyboards netizens.  I know some of you are probably making or joining hate pages on Facebook, seriously, grow up. I have edited this post for the nth time because there are still thoughts and ideas that need to sink in.  Also, I made a decision not to post or react when I am angry or pissed.  Sure, I was pissed when I first read the article.  Who wouldn't be?  But I just officially turned 28 and I need to act, you know - civilized.  You've got filter the facts and try to address the issue on how personally you can change for the better as a person.  I only found two response articles via Twitter:  " Editing James Soriano " and " Coming Home to the Filipino Language ".  If you have any article or known any worth-reading article you can message me here or ...
