Aery

Cake Garden Place
Cinnamon summer is now breezing in and if you're planning to take a next trip to Bohol, do check out Cake Garden Place.  Cake Garden Place is located at Unit 6, Seaview Apartment, Bool District Tagbilaran City.  It's one block away from the Sandugo Shrine and 15-20 minutes away from the city proper.  It gives you an aery feel to your Bohol experience.

Englewood Hospital is also just around the corner should there be any emergency arise.  Basically you're smacked right in the middle between the Dauis Junction and Baclayon, in other words you can have the best of both places.

The main package is 3,300Php good for 4 persons.  Two bedrooms fully air-conditioned, one common bathroom/toilet, fully functional kitchen with refrigerator, WIFI and cabled TV.  The best part probably is waking up to a scenic and peaceful sunrise with free breakfast served fresh and hot.  It is overlooking the island of Panglao and also sunsets are a treat.  Evenings are usually graced with activities from the Bool Barangay Hall:  basketball games, volleyball games and the like.

Spanking

30 March 2011

To Train Up a Child
To spank or not to spank?  That is the question but before going futher I suggest you read the previous post, "Training".

Not quite Shakespearian but there has been an uproar from netizens regarding the anti-spanking bill that has just passed first reading.  To give you what's going on, the Positive Discipline Act of 2011 passed the first reading at the House committee on the welfare of children.  The bill is co-authored by Tarlac Representative Susan Yap and Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy.   Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy earlier this year urged Aquino to list bill against spanking children as priority.

She authored House Bill 1082 that protects the child from all forms of corporal punishment and threats of physical harm that may be imposed as a disciplinary action by parents, guardians, teachers and elders.

HB 1082 prohibits the imposition of all manners of corporal punishment and other forms of disciplinary penalty, including humiliating or degrading methods against a child.  HB 1082 also promotes positive and non-violent ways of disciplining minors.  Among punishments to be prohibited are pinching (kurot), pulling of ears (pengot) or hair, cutting or shaving of hair, spanking with hand and whipping with belt, among others.

Hello!

Hello! Bohol Logo Draft
Hello! Bohol was my take on HelpDOT. If you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, read various sources here, here and here.

Anyway, the Department of Tourism (they really need to update their website by the way) launched a new program last November 2010 called "Pilipinas Kay Ganda".  A lot of things went down after that.  #HelpDOT is still an active twitter hashtag up until now and you can also visit the #HelpDOT Daily here.  Below is TeamManila's contribution to HelpDOT.

Projects

28 March 2011

I love taking side projects especially for Bible-believing churches.  I think I should start a section to showcase these projects but for now here are some of my favorites.  I'm currently available for side projects including blog tweaking.  All of these projects so far are for free (especially for churches).  Another thing is that I don't really know how to put a price mainly because I'm an amateur.  This is just a hobby while trying also to help others at the same time.  You can contact me at emigrino83@yahoo.com or you can use my savvy contact form here.

Doc

26 March 2011

Whats up doc?
Click me!
A Chronicle.

I wore one of my brand new scrubs today and a couple of fellow nurses were calling me doc.  My sister and I will be re-taking (emphasis on re-) the NMAT in Manila this coming April 10.  Somehow the school that we're targeting for has new policy for medical students and thus we need to catch up, if we can.  I've always wanted to be a doctor since I was a kid.  I don't know why but I'm quite sure it's not about the glamor (because it isn't) and money.

I know I have screwed up big time during my first year in college, it was supposed to be my ticket on pursuing med school but alas, the folly of youth overtook me and thus led to me to a different path.  But somehow, God meant it to be good.

Inception

When we relocated to Bohol, I shifted to Nursing.  It was also during that time Nursing was in the all time high (I can't believe it's almost 10 years now).  I also heard news that some of my friends and classmates from my previous college have also shifted to Nursing, so I wasn't alone.  I was placed in a good church in Bohol, made good Christian friends and was exposed to the ministry for about 3-5 years and traveled to Luzon.  But I knew that I had to practice Nursing or else I would really get rusty and what my parents spent for would be gone to waste.

Retweets

25 March 2011

[tweet] /via [username] isn't the
same as RT [username]: [tweet]
I've been using "RT" and "via" to retweet.  In the back of my mind I know something is wrong and that there is a difference between the two but I did not bother to Google it until I was reading Maxvoltar.  Lo and behold at the bottom of the sidebar where you can find tidbits of wisdom it says:  "[tweet] /via [username] isn't the same as RT [username]: [tweet]".  I know I have been procrastinating to find an answer before but I had to Google it, stat! Glad I found the article "RT" vs "via" by atebits and summarize it:

What I found recently is that “RT” and “via” don’t mean the same thing. “RT” is typically used for verbatim retweets, sort of like the equivalent of “Fwd” for those chain emails your grandmother still sends you where Bill Gates will pay you money if you forward it to 10 people. “via” on the other hand is used when you want to add your own context to some existing tweet while attributing it to the original author.

Here are some examples:

Hymns

24 March 2011

I love good old fashioned hymns. And we don't get to see or listen new hymns nowadays with the same caliber with the old ones. Once in a while we do and I think Adam Young's cover of the hymn "In Christ Alone" written by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend. There has been a few versions of this hymns but sadly they deviated from the "Principles of Right and Wrong Music". Adam Young's version, however, I believe is a better one and places the hymn on it's rightful place. This version places back the focus on Christ and not on the instruments or even the vocalist.

A couple of verses though were omitted by this version. Here below is the complete lyrics of the said hymn. When I heard this hymn, it bears the similarity of Charitie Bancroft's "Before The Throne".

Before The Throne
by Charitie Bancroft

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea. (Heb 4:15-16)
A great High Priest whose Name is Love (Heb 4:14)
Who ever lives and pleads for me. (Heb 7:25)

My name is graven on His hands, (Isa 49:16)
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart. (Rom 8:34)

When Satan tempts me to despair (Luke 22:31-32)
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there (Acts 7:55-56)
Who made an end of all my sin. (Col 2:13-14)

Because the sinless Savior died (2 Cor. 5:21)
My sinful soul is counted free. (Gal. 5:1)
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me. (Rom 3:24-26)

Behold Him there the risen Lamb, (Rev 5:6)
My perfect spotless righteousness, (1 Cor 1:30; 1 Peter 1:18-19)
The great unchangeable I AM, (Heb 13:8; John 8:58)
The King of glory and of grace, (Psalm 24:8)

One in Himself I cannot die.
My soul is purchased by His blood, (Acts 20:28)
My life is hid with Christ on high, (Col 3:3)
With Christ my Savior and my God! (Tit 2:13)

To Train Up a Child
by
Michael & Debi Pearl

INTRODUCTION

This book is not about discipline, nor problem children. The emphasis is on the training of a child before the need to discipline arises. It is apparent that most parents never attempt to train a child to obey. They wait until the child becomes unbearable and then explode. With proper training, discipline can be reduced to 5% of what many now practice. As you come to understand the difference between training and discipline, you will have a renewed vision for your family--no more raised voices, no contention, no bad attitudes, fewer spankings, a cheerful atmosphere in the home, and total obedience from your children.

Any parent with an emotional maturity level higher than the average thirteen-year-old can, with a proper vision and knowledge of the technique, have happy obedient children. This is not a theory; it is a practical reality which has been successfully applied many times over.

A couple, stressed out with the conflict of three young children, after spending the weekend with us and hearing some of these principles, changed their strategy. One week later, they exclaimed, "I can't believe it; we went to a friend's house, and when I told my children to do something, they immediately, without question, obeyed."

These truths are not new, deep insights from the professional world of research, rather, the same principles the Amish use to train their stubborn mules, the same technique God uses to train his children. They are profoundly simple and extremely obvious. After examining them with us, you will say, "I knew that all along. Where have I been? It's so obvious."

NursePress

14 March 2011

NursePress is my nursing blog which I started last year.  One of the reasons why I started a nursing blog is that it's been a long time that I have actually practiced my profession.  After graduation I went to Makati, traveled all over Luzon but on the last year of May, I know that I was overdue to really go back to the profession.  The blog at first was just random posts about nursing, resources and events.  I later found out that there were better blogs doing that kind of stuff so the blog was again put into a halt.  I really plan to revive this blog this year.  I want to focus more on learning because Nursing is a profession that is personal and is on a constant change.  It's one of the noblest jobs but it's also one of the dirtiest professions around.  The blog as a 170+ followers on Facebook and 180+ followers on Twitter.  I think it's quite stellar to have that amount of followers for a newbie blogger like me.  Anyway, I've completely revamped the blog including posts that I find redundant but here's a couple of downloads that I have made during that span of time.  Given my knack for design and playing with Photoshop, I've made wallpapers, cheat sheets and posters.  Here's a couple of them that I still find to be useful for nurses.

Blogger

12 March 2011

Blogger
I'm now officially back blogging on Blogger though Sixteen Eleven and All Things Black & White will always be on WordPress.  I love WordPress.com, it's the most powerful blogging platform up to date but I miss all the tweaking with a little bit of code here and there.  Blogger is also a good platform, not as powerful  as WordPress but definitely worth the competition since Google owns it.  I think anytime they can just revamp the whole platform and add great functionalities that would definitely rival WordPress.  But that time hasn't come yet,  one of these days, I think.  So here are the tweaks that I've made since getting back.
